In a manner that might be described as both tender and disconcerting, this choreography attempts to show the way in which our gaze as onlookers is structured. As a reflection on how we constitute physical entities merely by perceiving them in a certain manner, the piece generates bodies in transition that can no longer be assigned to a single identity. But as scenes of intimacy, of touching, and of loving are recreated, the audience participates in another "spectacle" that redefines conventional physical boundaries.
Eszter Salamon is artist-in-residence at Podewil / TanzWerkstatt Berlin. "Reproduction" is her first evening-length group piece. |
