This program is a joint presentation of Tanz im August and Staatsballett Berlin. It marks the beginning of a planned long-term collaboration with the newly-established Staatsballett, and gives artistic expression to the increased mutual curiosity and openness between contemporary dance and ballet concepts.
The evening is composed of works by Dana Caspersen and William Forsythe, who have made a name for themselves as pioneers in the border zone between the two aesthetics; Jérôme Bel, Eszter Salamon and Xavier Le Roy, stars of the avant-garde of contemporary dance. Vladimir Malakhov, world-famous dancer and head of Staatsballett Berlin, will present a suprise choreography. |

THE THE
“THE THE is a richly articulate knot wound by two women. Thinking intently through the curves and tensions of their bodies, the women engage in a conversation of limbs, spoken in a precise, tangled dialect of beauty.” (Dana Caspersen)

“Ballet interests me enormously, in the sense that it is the history of performance dance, an extremely refined and elaborate language, and yet understandable by almost anyone, because it forms a part of Western culture.” (Jérôme Bel)
