Sasha Waltz developed her first acclaimed opera staging, of Henry Purcell‘s DIDO & AENEAS, together with the 12 dancers in her ensemble and 51 musicians, choir members, and soloists. In recent years, Waltz has focused on blurring boundaries and forging links between different genres, creating such projects as DIALOGUES ’99 at the Jewish Museum, 17-25/4 outside the Mendelssohn building at Lehniner Platz, and the choreographic installation INSIDEOUT. The ensemble ushered in a new phase in its creative work when it turned to classical music with IMPROMPTUS, an adaptation of a piece by Schubert that premiered in April 2004.
