The Festival 2005

Tanz im August remains a central forum for international choreography involving the participation of practically all dance presenters in Berlin – this year with more than 10 venues plus open-air sites and the Arsenal film house.

The recent creation of a state ballet company based in Berlin and committed to establishing working contact with the contemporary dance scene in the city has allowed us to open a window showing the existing link between both „worlds“. The night at the State Opera Unter den Linden on the 21st will highlight this link as will the works of Julia Cima and Olga de Soto.

This year’s program also focuses on the installation character of certain works such as Forsythe’s YOU MADE ME A MONSTER, Marin’s UMWELT and OHNE TITEL.

Cooperation with two of the larger contemporary companies in Berlin is another strong point of Tanz im August 2005 – Meg Stuart/ Damaged Goods and Sasha Waltz & Guests – not only through the presence of these two artists themselves in the program but with the presentation of work by choreographers involved in their company’s work – Gaëtan Bulourde and Luc Dunberry.

We look forward to your presence at the festival.
