P.A.R.T.S. IN BERLIN

29 + 30 AUG / 21.00 h

The two evenings feature the work of four recent graduates of the P.A.R.T.S. program – Tarek Halaby and Eleanor Bauer (on August 29) and Benjamin Vandewalle and Andros Zinsbrowne (August 30) – each of whom will be presenting a solo and either a duo or a group piece. All four young choreo-graphers are well on their way to developing a unique artistic vision while exploring the limits and the variety of definitions of „contemporary dance.“

PROGRAMM 29 AUG

Eleanor Bauer

ELEANOR! (SOLO)
ELEANOR! (2004) is a critical portrait of the frenetic success drive that consumes a self- producing artist to the point where the survival-based need to promote oneself overrides artistic integrity. In this self-economization, the artist takes on several identities and vocations in order to serve an increasingly obscured desire to create. Through a "gently schizophrenic" web of interrelated activities that support and feed off of each other, the art, the artist, and the promotion fade into one.

E-M-P-A-T-H-Y
A body, „read,“ finished? A book – a rotting cadaver? Stench and falseness. The flesh is writing, and writing is never read: it always remains to be read, studied, sought, invented. (Hélène Cixous)

Tarek Halaby

AN ATTEMPT TO UNDERSTAND MY SOCIO-POLITICAL DISPOSITION THROUGH ARTISTIC RESEARCH ON PERSONAL IDENTITY IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE PALESTINIAN-ISRAELI CONFLICT, PART I (SOLO)

LOVE. DEATH. MY LIFE WITH TING-YU. OH WAIT, I AM YOU
- Duet with SueYeon Youn
This (intensely fake) piece (that pretends to be) about real life is an autobiographical drama (devised without a single thought towards dramaturgy). Funny and (not so) physical, MY (AWFUL) LIFE WITH TING-YU will keep you (unsure of why you are) laughing and wondering (if you should get up and leave).

PROGRAMM 30 AUG

Benjamin Vandewalle

SKINSIDE OUT (SOLO)
„Tell me....at what precise moment...does an individual stop being who he thinks he is?“ „You know I don‘t like complications.“ (THE TENANT (1976) Film by Roman Polanski)

WE GO - Duet with Vincenzo Carta
we enter the studio
we don‘t speak
we stay for two hours
we stay in contact without contact
we use repetition without repeating
we play with the impossible
we go

Andros Zinsbrowne

WHITE OUT (SOLO)
What are the dynamics
involved in the construction of race,
and in what contexts are they placed and
legitimized? Athlete, servant, entertainer,
performer, champion, victim, constrained bodies and fierce bodies, on the move, on their toes, looking over their shoulders, moving, shaking, hustling, ultimately domesticated by the mediums that bring these bodies into contact with „us.“

LIMEWIRE*
Youth movements, counterculture and subculture movements have always embodied a spirit of opposition. In a choreography that draws on the principles of networks and peer-to-peer file-sharing programs, LIMEWIRE* questions the meaning of rebellion in a time when the most powerful countercultural tool has become the ability to copy.
