DER NEUE MENSCH. VIER ÜBUNGEN IN UTOPISCHEN BEWEGUNGEN

In the past decades, a wave of "self development" theories and practices have invaded the planet in promoting the idea that self-improvement is at everybody’s reach.

The Visitants nimmt die Zuschauer auf sehr humorvolle Weise mit auf eine innere Reise der Darsteller, die ihre vertraulichen Erfahrungen vor den neugierigen Blicken des Publikums bloß legen.

SELF-INTERVIEW ON PRACTICE
von Chrysa Parkinson

A movie version of an essay written about practice.

" In 2008 I was part of 6M1L/Ex.e.r.c.e., a performance and research project instigated by Xavier LeRoy and Bojana Cvejic in Montpellier. My focus during these 6 months was to develop a way of identifying and developing performance practices, and on performing while absent. The result was Self Interview on Practice, an illustrated audio essay. The initial proposal came from Mette Ingvartsen as an invitation to write for the on-line publication Everybody’s, and in preparation for a conversation on practice in Montpellier. The form of self-interview has since become a practice in itself." C. Parkinson

Chrysa Parkinson is a performer and teacher living in Brussels. She has been a member of Zoo/Thomas Hauert since 2003. In 2009-2010 she will perform with Jonathan Burrows, Mette Ingvartsen and Rosas/Anna Teresa de Keersmaeker.
In the last couple of years she has also performed with Deborah Hay, John Jasperse, Mark Lorimer, Meg Stuart and David Zambrano. In New York she danced with Tere O’Connor for many years, and also worked with Mark Dendy, Lucy Guerin, Irene Hultman, Jennifer Monson, and Mia Lawrence, among others. She was awarded a NY Dance and Performance Award (Bessie) for sustained achievement in performance.
Chrysa is currently working with P.A.R.T.S. as a consultant for the second cycle students and staff. She teaches classes and workshops internationally, and occasionally publishes essays on dance and performance.

MAGNETIC CINEMA

Filmstill

Inspired by Lugares Comunes by choreographer Benoît Lachambre, the film touches on the sphere of the supernatural. An interplay of multiple energies links the film’s characters to the natural elements—air, water, plant and mineral—leading to strange, instinctual body movements. These characters have an android double, haunted by another, non-human will. They move about in a magnetic space where corporal language takes the place of the verbal.

Actors: Germana Civera, Hannah Hedman, Saskia Hölbling, Benoît Lachambre, Moravia Naranjo, Fabrice Ramalingom, Stephen Thompson // Director of photography: Emmanuelle Collino // Sound engineer: Jérôme Ayasse // Editor: Thierry Rouden // Producer: Chantal Delanoë // Production: Regards Productions / TV Rennes 35 // With the participation of: Centre national de la cinématographie, Conseil régional de Bretagne, Procirep-Société des producteurs, Angoa, Adami, Télébrest, Conseil des Arts du Canada, programme MEDIA de l’Union européenne, and the support of: Par B.L. eux (Canada), Le Quartz-Scène nationale de

THE HEATHER LANG SHOW BY ELEANOR BAUER AND VISE VERSUS

One-woman show: double the woman, double the show. Based in the gregarious performative context of drag, two women appear as men appearing as women.

The two performer use drag not only as a manipulation of gender, but as a springboard for the total emancipation of the performer through a plethora of personalities, entertainers, characters and iconic figures both cultural/historical and fictional.

Foto: Matt Atkinson

"The aroma of travesty is pungent, immediately discernable, it can transform a room and provide a unique 'frisson.' ... Drag rarely seems to be equated with the promise of talent, though there have always been exceptional manifestations of the drag queen ... Drag has never been about confusion, gender or otherwise, in my experience. It has always functioned as a sublimely specific vehicle for expression, a beautiful surprise, a red scarf waved in the face of a bullish society unwilling to witness the values between the black and the white. Instead of producing the 'illusion of inner depth,' I have harnessed its unique potential so as to reveal my inner depths to a surprised and unsuspecting public."    - John Kelley, In Praise Of Drag, 1991

ABSTRACTIONS
Installation von Emilio Tomé

Abstractions ist eine Annährung an die Oberfläche, an tastbare Sinneseindrücke, an den Verfall und die Spuren der Zeit. Abstractions macht die versteckte Kunst in unseren Städten sichtbar.

Abstractions is an approach to skins, tactile sensations, deterioration, the traces of time and the hidden art in our cities. It presents a reflection on scale and perception; Proposing a bubble, a space for contemplation, a break in time, a crack, a meditation.

Videostill

Emilio Tomé lives in Madrid. He studied Architecture, Physical Theater and Contemporary Dance. He has worked as an architect, graphic designer, performer, writer, video maker and theater director during the last 10 years. He has collaborated with Xavier Le Roy, Juan Domínguez and others. He has developped his own practice in pieces for stage: Cocktail (1999), Wave (2001), Noise (2004-2005), Walkings (2006) and Abstractions (2008) showed in different festivals and contexts. His practice tries to bring together concepts and inputs from different languages (cinema, science, architecture, painting, literature, photography, dance) to create channels for exchange between disciplines and remaining at an intermediate place between skepticism and enthusiasm.

HAHN ROWE IN CONCERT WITH OLGA MINK

Der New Yorker Komponist, Produzent und Multi-Instrumentalist Hahn Rowe bewegt sich hin und her zwischen Rock, Elektronischer Musik und Improvisation. Er komponierte die Musik zu etlichen Stücken von Meg Stuart / Damaged Goods.

In this concert he rolls his violin playing across a digital carpet of ‘microsonics’ to creat a sumptuous, almost symphonic sound that is accompanied by the artist Olga Mink’s live video projections.

Hahn Rowe has performed and/or worked with artists such as Hugo Largo, Glenn Branca, David Byrne, Hassan Hakmoun, Foetus, Mimi, and Antony and the Johnsons among many others. He is currently active as a composer for film (working with directors such as Michael Apted, Lodge Kerrigan, and Tom Gilroy) and his longstanding musical collaboration with choreographer Meg Stuart (Damaged Goods) has resulted in the creation of 7 critically acclaimed dance/theater works.

Olga Mink works in the fields of new media, live performance, video- and interactive art, exploring new possibilities in digital representation. With a strong emphasis to conceptual approaches, her work crosses boundaries between music, photography, architecture, poetry, nature, dance, public spaces and engaged themes. Her installation Ballet Mechanique explored the idea of physicality in the virtual (projected) environment, whilst Video matic employed touch screens and online interactive works as part of a permanent installation for a new building. She has been working together with musicians as Scanner, Banabila, Vloeimans and The Black dog. Work has been released on labels internationally, whilst her expansive live performances been seen in Europe, United States and Japan. Her works have been displayed at Tate Britain, Empac New York, Sonar in Spain, and the Grand Canaria Biennial amongst others. She also works as a curator in audiovisual arts and digital media. Mink lives and works in The Netherlands.

Tânia Carvalho (Choreografin und Tänzerin) präsentiert überraschende Versionen bekannter Songs.

In the last years Tânia Carvalho (choreographer and dancer) had a chance to explore deeper her vocal capacities through surprising versions of known songs. Influences like Diamanda Galas, Nina Hagen, Klaus Nomi or Ima Soumac are present in the way the songs, mainly from the Pop universe, are transformed, recreated, metamorphosed, or thorn apart by Carvalho's voice and talent.

With her impressive and personal musical approach, Tânia Carvalho stands out as one of the new comers of a new generation in Portuguese alternative music.
