Der französische Choreograf Rachid Ouramdane präsentiert mit seinem neuen Solo LOIN… ein ungewöhnliches Autoportrait. Während einer dreimonatigen Reise durch Vietnam wird dem Sohn algerischer Einwanderer im Laufe einer Diskussion klar, dass man ihn aus dortiger Sicht als den Sohn eines Kolonialisten betrachtet. Der Vater Ouramdanes war Soldat in Frankreichs ehemaliger Kolonie Französisch-Indochina. Rachid Ouramdane bereiste und erkundete jene Orte, die sich auf der Reiseroute seines verstorbenen Vaters befanden. Mit dem Videofilmer Aldo Lee hat er dreiundzwanzig Stunden Bildmaterial sowie Interviews mit zehn Gesprächspartnern aufgenommen. LOIN… ist keine Reportage, sondern ein künstlerisches Verfahren, um die eigene Identität im Spannungsfeld postkolonialer Wirklichkeiten zu verorten.
“During a journey to Vietnam and Cambodia, I discovered a new way to explore the feeling of being a foreigner. In a discussion about the violence that has torn these countries apart, I remembered the pages of my father’s military papers – a father who had been forced to crush the Indochina of an earlier era. As the discussion progressed, I realized that – due to my French nationality – I was considered to be a colonialist’s son. However, what linked my father to Indochina was another colonization’s legacy: that of his country, Algeria. Once again it struck me that upheavals and devastation caused by the violence of armed conflict should lead us to reflect upon the image of foreigners in many areas of the world. LOIN… is a project that traces the steps of a journey made over 50 years ago.” (Rachid Ouramdane)
