GLORIA DAYS ist eine schillernde und glamouröse multimediale Hommage an eine der exzentrischsten Figuren des 19. Jahrhunderts: Henry Cyril Paget, der 5. Marquis von Anglesey, war vernarrt in Frauenkleider und Juwelen, kaufte jedes Schmuckstück, dessen er habhaft werden konnte, und ließ sich aus den teuersten Stoffen und Juwelen dramatische Fantasiekostüme schneidern. Sein theatraler Lebensstil, seine ausschweifenden Feste und seine grandiosen Selbstinszenierungen waren ein Affront gegen die englische Aristokratie. Der walisische Choreograf und Tänzer Marc Rees hat gemeinsam mit dem Opern-Bühnenbildner John MacFarlane, der Berliner Tanzcompagnie Rubato und der Theaterhistorikerin Vivien Gardner ein einzigartiges Solo über das fantastische Leben und tragische Ende des „tanzenden Marquis'“ erschaffen.
GLORIA DAYS is Marc Rees’ most flamboyant and ambitious project to date. With the support of a formidable creative team including opera designer John MacFarlane, Berlin dance duo Rubato and theater historian Vivien Gardner, Marc has created an imaginative, compelling and moving piece of dance theater inspired by an extraordinary character: the 5th Marquis of Anglesey, Henry Cyril Paget. Known as ‘The Dancing Marquis’, Paget challenged and subverted Edwardian notions of class, gender, decorum and theatrical propriety.
